Celebrating Arbor Day: EPE Joins Hands with the City of Las Cruces to Plant Trees for a Greener Future

LAS CRUCES, New Mexico (April 30, 2024) – El Paso Electric (EPE) and the City of Las Cruces are proud to announce an Arbor Day celebration aimed at enhancing the greenery and environmental sustainability of our community parks. On April 30, 2024, EPE employees and City of Las Cruces staff rolled up their sleeves to plant 10 Mexican Sycamore trees in Valley View Park and 10 Chinese Pistache trees found their new home in Soldados Park.

Arbor Day, celebrated on April 26, 2024, is a time-honored observance dedicated to planting and nurturing trees and serves as a reminder of the vital role that trees play in purifying the air, conserving energy and beautifying our surroundings. The deciduous trees were carefully selected for their ability to provide shade and cool respite during the hot summer months, ensuring that these parks remain inviting havens for families and individuals seeking to spend quality time outdoors.

“At EPE, we recognize the immense value that trees bring to our communities, not only in terms of environmental sustainability but also in fostering a sense of well-being and belonging,” said Kelly Tomblin, EPE President and CEO. “Arbor Day presents an invaluable opportunity for us to partner with the City of Las Cruces in the spirit of environmental stewardship, making a tangible difference in the health and vitality of our communities.”

“Our park areas greatly benefit from all the beautiful trees we enjoy, and which enhance the environment,” said City of Las Cruces Community Forester Orlando Flores. “This glorious collaboration among the City of Las Cruces and EPE is a showcase for how we get things done in Las Cruces. We are thankful for the partnership with EPE and for their support and commitment to our parks and the trees that make Las Cruces the beautiful city we all know and love.”
