El Paso Electric's Transportation Electrification Plan Approved by NMPRC
Setting the stage for an increase in electric vehicle adoption and infrastructure development across New Mexico.
EL PASO, Texas – El Paso Electric (EPE) is excited to announce the New Mexico Public Regulation Commission’s (NMPRC) approval of its a Transportation Electrification Plan (TEP) for the years 2024-2026. This landmark decision paves the way for a comprehensive suite of programs and initiatives aimed at significantly increasing electric vehicle (EV) adoption and infrastructure development across New Mexico, marking a significant milestone in the state’s journey towards sustainable transportation.
The approved TEP includes a wide range of strategic measures tailored to accelerate the transition to electric vehicles within EPE’s New Mexico service territory:
- Residential Initiatives: Programs such as the EV Smart Rewards NM Program, Smart Charging Program, Home Wiring Program, Electric Bicycle Rebate Program and Low-Income On-the-Hood EV Rebate Programs are designed to incentivize homeowners to adopt EVs and to provide incentives for installation of smart home charging solutions. .
- Commercial Incentives: The PowerConnect NM Program, EV Charging Equipment Rebate Program, EV Charging Installation Rebate Program, and Take-Charge NM Program will support businesses and public entities in installing EV charging stations, promoting wider accessibility to charging infrastructure.
- New Construction Rebate Programs: Initiatives like the EV-Ready Homes Program and EV-Ready Multi-Unit Dwellings Program will ensure that new homes and apartments are equipped with EV charging capabilities during new construction process, fostering a future-proof infrastructure.
- Partnership Research and Innovations Program: A commitment to collaborative efforts with stakeholders to explore and implement advanced electrification solutions.
- Customer Outreach Program: A robust campaign aimed at raising awareness and educating the public about the benefits of EV adoption and the importance of sustainability.
Additionally, the plan introduces an innovative rate option for public charging stations, the experimental Demand Adjustment Rider and continues to offer the popular Whole House/Whole Service EV Rate Rider Incentive Credit, both designed to make EV charging more cost-effective for consumers.
