Every day, our EPE lineworkers give their best to keep our community shining brightly. As much as we appreciate the work that our lineworkers do when we hit the light switch, we would like to show some extra gratitude for all the men and women working hard to serve our community during the month of July.
At EPE, we understand our customers may sometimes have financial troubles paying their electric bill. If you have fallen behind on your bill, our partners at Project Amistad are here to help by offering financial assistance to those who qualify.
EPE is always proud to be part of making a difference within the communities we serve. This is why we established the Volunteers on Location to Serve (VOLTS) program. Our employees and their families are ready to bring focus to the much-needed missions of our Community Partners. In June, EPE VOLTS partnered with Casa de Peregrinos in Las Cruces, New Mexico and the United Service Organizations (USO) in El Paso, Texas for two exceptional volunteer experiences.
New Mexico State University’s (NMSU) largest source of renewable energy – a three-megawatt solar and battery energy storage installation called Aggie Power – started generating power, marking a milestone nearly four years in the making in partnership with EPE.
Soon after construction wrapped up in December 2021, Aggie Power underwent a two-month testing phase before it began supplying solar electricity for NMSU’s Las Cruces campus.
EPE’s Summer College Internship Program consists of 10 college students this year. Launched back in 2011, EPE’s paid internship focuses on providing students with professional development opportunities, work experience, and volunteer opportunities.
The Summer Internship Program has been redesigned to ensure that students have more time working with their departments offering them a more hands-on experience, and complete volunteer opportunities to better understand the power of corporate social responsibility working with organizations like the YWCA El Paso Del Norte.
June marks a very special month for our community – it’s Pride Month! Pride is a time to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community and be proud of living openly and authentically. This month, and every month, we are proud to celebrate alongside our team members, family, and friends! At EPE, we take pride in diversity, inclusion, and acceptance and believe that #LoveIsPower.
Hot summer days create heavy demand on the energy grid when the operation of refrigerated air conditioning increases. The Energy Wise Savings Program allows us to work together to be more efficient, which can also save you money and reduce carbon emissions. To participate, your home must have a smart thermostat that can be controlled remotely during occasional summer periods when energy demand is seasonally high. The Program works with your smart thermostat to learn your preferred settings and help manage your energy use while keeping you comfortable during periods of high demand.
The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) EPE unveiled additions to the UTEP mobile, 26-foot-long, hands-on K-12 classroom designed to teach energy and engineering concepts and their real-world relevance while encouraging students to pursue STEM-related careers.
The electricity project additions to the Discover-E Engineering and Computing Lab classroom is a product of the memorandum of understanding signed last year by UTEP President Heather Wilson and EPE President and CEO Kelly A. Tomblin to enhance energy research and improve education in the El Paso region.
You may have heard or come across the message we are sharing with the community: Be Energy Wise! It’s our way of connecting you to useful ways to conserve energy and drive down energy costs.
With high temperatures steadily increasing each day, and with the possibility of our first triple digit weather day forecasted for this weekend, EPE is encouraging everyone to use every opportunity to manage their energy consumption that inevitably impacts the electric bill. Why? The logic is simple: as temperatures go up, so can your energy consumption which means higher electric bills.
Every year, our desert southwest region can always count on a summer scorcher filled with too many triple-digit weather days. What we have also come to expect is that each year we find summer weather reaching new extremes. Over the last eight years, it has become EPE’s practice to complete what is called a “summer blitz” where maintenance crews identify areas within our infrastructure that need to be updated, repaired, or completely replaced to help ensure safe, reliable service for the summer peak season. This annual tradition is a much-needed proactive measure; however, our crews are constantly at the ready in those moments when unplanned power outages occur.
Are you looking to ride into the sunset this summer in a new car? Have you considered either an all-electric (EV) or plug-in hybrid (PHEV) car? Don’t know what your options are or where to begin? Let EPE help you with that.
In just the last few days, EPE launched the regions’ first EV Online Shopping Tool for customers, available in English and Spanish. When customers visit epelectric.com/ev, they will immediately be connected to every EV or PHEV available listed with the full details and specs of each car, and can discover available incentives and rebates to help make this choice of transportation an affordable one.
EPE recently made a couple of announcements welcoming two new leaders to our executive team. David Rodriguez, a 19-year Company veteran, now serves as Vice President of Power Generation, and Jessica Christianson, a 9-year tenured team member, now serves as Vice President of Sustainability and Energy Solutions.
EPE recently received the 2022 ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year Award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy for its abilities in helping customers save on energy consumption and efforts in customer outreach and education on energy efficiency.
A study finds that El Paso ranks fourth in Texas for total installed solar capacity, published in the eighth edition of Environment Texas Research & Policy Center’s report Shining Cities: The Top U.S. Cities for Solar Energy.
The report, which is the most comprehensive survey available of installed solar capacity in major U.S. cities, found that El Paso added just over 20 megawatts between the end of 2019 and the end of 2021. The city is now home to 70.4 megawatts of solar capacity total, which comes out to about 103.2 watts per person.
Through April 30th, El Paso Electric (EPE) Texas residential customers can take advantage of the opportunity to recycle their old refrigerator or freezer and earn $70 while doing so through the Utility’s Texas Appliance Recycling Program. Plus, your appliance will be picked up safely at your home.
You can get an extra $20 for recycling these appliances during the month of April! While EPE’s Texas Appliance Recycling Program normally offers $50 to residential customers, the promotional $70 rebate is for a limited time and will expire at the end of April.
At El Paso Electric, our more than 1,100 team members are encouraged to serve the community we all call ‘home’ in a way unique to them. This initiative is captured by our EPE program called VOLTS: Volunteers On Location To Serve, where EPE team members donate their time, treasure, and talent to our region. Last year, EPE team members went above and beyond by volunteering nearly 11,300 hours. This year, our goal is set on surpassing that number and getting our friends, family, and YOU involved.
This coming Monday, April 18th marks a very special day for our industry and for our community – it’s Lineworker Appreciation Day! Lineworkers are very special and uniquely talented essential workers who help ensure that all the power that is generated by us, your electric utility, is safely and reliably distributed to your home or business. Especially when a storm sweeps through or a pole gets knocked down, these team members spring into action and help restore your power as quickly and safely as possible. Today, and every day, we say THANK YOU and we appreciate you! Stay tuned in July when we join Edison Electric Institute (EEI) to celebrate lineworkers across the globe.
Coming soon to a smart device near you – El Paso Electric’s EV Online Shopper Tool! That’s right – directly from EPE’s website you will be able to shop for the EV that works just for you. You will be able to shop and compare similar vehicles based on range, price, and other qualities … even to gas vehicles! This tool will also assist customers to find incentives available in EPE’s New Mexico and Texas service territories. Mark your calendars as the EPE EV Online Shopper Tool arrives on Cinco De Mayo!
The Better Business Bureau Paso Del Norte (BBB) and El Paso Electric (EPE) joined forces during National Consumer Protection Week to share information with consumers across the region on how they can avoid scams, identity theft, and be a resource on other important consumer protection issues.
March is known for National Consumer Protection Awareness, which is perfect since spring season kicks into gear at a time when we should dust off those handy-dandy tips that help keep scams and phishing tricks away. Part of this very important conversation is cybersecurity. And no, you do not have to be some IT wizard to fall into the traps of a cyber scam. These days, anyone is at risk, and with technology all around us, everyone is vulnerable.
News outlets across the country are reporting on the rippling effect being felt across the world – higher gas prices hitting the pumps as the conflict rages on in Eastern Europe. Whether these increases in fuel costs are an extreme blip or signs of an inevitable change, one thing is for certain – getting from point A to point B will always be a necessity. So why not make a change that meets your needs and saves you money? Unlike the spike in gas prices these days, electric vehicles (EVs) are slowly pulling up the driveway even when the benefits speed past traditional, combustion-engine vehicles.
Each year, EPE is proud to award over $1.2 Million in corporate giving to support the mission and service provided by nonprofit organizations that aid the same customers powered by EPE. EPE’s Community Partner Program is in full gear and ready to accept grant applications from local nonprofits.
EPE Texas customers – both residential and commercial customers – can really maximize their savings through a variety of programs and offers through the Energy Efficiency Program. To get started, just click HERE to learn more about the programs available for you. Stay tuned for next month newsletter as we will feature programs and offers available for New Mexico residential and commercial customers.
Don’t pull the plug on love with a Mylar balloon this Valentine’s Day. Mylar balloons – balloons made of a foil plastic – can cause a power outage if they come in contact with electrical power lines or other electrical structures. Help keep the Power of Love strong with these simple tips.
The Bright Hearts Fund (Fund) has been transformed to now assist customers across the entire El Paso Electric (EPE) service region.
