Rudolph “Rudy” Wynter is the former CEO/President of National Grid’s New York business, where he managed one of the largest utilities in the state, overseeing 9,000 employees. National Grid provides electricity and gas service to more than 4.2 million customers across New York.
Wynter oversaw all facets of National Grid’s New York business including operations, financial and regulatory elements and managed relationships with government officials and the communities National Grid serves. His top priority was following through on National Grid’s commitment to deliver safe, reliable and affordable energy to customers while advancing net zero solutions to achieve New York’s clean energy goals.
During his tenure, Wynter oversaw significant infrastructure investments to improve reliability and enable increased use of renewable energy. Under his leadership, National Grid announced a $21 billion, five-year capital investment plan in the state of New York. This includes the “Upstate Upgrade”, a $4 billion package of 70 transmission upgrade projects that will deploy state-of-the-art technologies to increase grid capacity and improve resilience to extreme weather. Wynter also oversaw groundbreaking pilot programs to support decarbonization of heat in New York, new research to support planning for increased electric vehicle use and a significant expansion of National Grid’s customer assistance and workforce development programs.
In 2021, Wynter launched “Project C,” National Grid’s commitment to the community. Through this program National Grid supported more than 183,000 local businesses, launched more than 1,000 community partnerships and volunteered more than 55,000 employee hours.
Wynter also serves on the board of directors of EnerSys (NYSE: ENS), a leader in stored energy solutions and Balfour Beatty plc (LSE: BBY) an international construction company.
Wynter earned his Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering from Pratt Institute and has a Master of Business Administration from Fordham University.
