With Take Charge New Mexico, El Paso Electric offers a turnkey solution for commercial/municipal customers who are interested in having Level 2 EV charging stations but don’t know where to start. El Paso Electric will purchase and install the charging stations at no upfront cost to the customer. The customer is only responsible for paying their monthly electric bills and any costs associated with maintaining the equipment. This program is prioritized for multi-unit dwellings, EV fleets and public EV charging stations in underserved communities. 

 

Who’s eligible?

NM commercial/municipal customers who have an active account with El Paso Electric and remain in good standing are eligible to apply.

Get Discounts on System Upgrades for EV Charging Stations

With the PowerConnect New Mexico program, El Paso Electric provides rebates to help offset costs associated with distribution system upgrades or improvements needed on El Paso Electric’s side of the meter to provide EV charging capabilities. This program can be combined with EV Charging Equipment and Installation Rebate Programs. 

 

For standard commercial projects, the rebate amounts are designed to cover 50% of upgrade costs or improvements to El Paso Electric’s distribution system up to the utility meter and 70% of the costs for projects located in underserved communities. For schools, public transit, fleets and multi-unit dwelling projects, the rebates may cover 100% of the project costs subject to max rebate amounts listed in the table below.

EV Charging Equipment Rebate Program

The EV Charging Equipment Rebate Program is available for commercial customers who install qualifying EV charging equipment. The rebate amounts are designed to cover 50% of EV charging equipment costs or 70% of EV charging equipment costs for commercial businesses located in underserved communities, subject to the maximum rebate amounts listed below.

EV Charging Installation Rebate Program

The EV Charging Installation Rebate Program is available to commercial customers to help offset installation costs for qualifying EV charging equipment. The rebate amounts are designed to cover 50% of installation costs for qualifying charging stations or 70% of installation costs for qualifying EV charging stations in underserved communities, subject to the maximum rebate amounts listed below.

Who’s eligible? 

 

Commercial/municipal customers in New Mexico who have an active account with El Paso Electric, remain in good standing and meet commercial program requirements* are eligible to apply.

 

  • Have a new or existing El Paso Electric account in New Mexico. 
  • Proof of purchase and/or installation of a qualifying EV charging station after April 1, 2024. 
  • Proof of passing city,county or CID inspection. 
  • Charging stations must have smart charging capabilities through either OpenADR or OCPP communications protocol. 
  • Charging stations must be able to connect to Wi-Fi or cellular networks. 
  • Charging stations must include non-proprietary charging plugs.
  • Charging outlets must accept payment, including but not limited to a QR code. 
  • Charging stations must be connected to El Paso Electric’s grid.
  • Must agree to share charging data with El Paso Electric.

Customer receipt of federal, state or other funding sources will be considered when reviewing customer rebate applications.
