El Paso Electric Expands Board of Directors with Visionary Leaders in Energy and Innovation

EL PASO, Texas (January 21, 2025) – El Paso Electric (EPE) is proud to announce the appointment of two distinguished leaders to its Board of Directors: Dr. Patricia A. Sullivan, Associate Dean of the College of Engineering at the New Mexico State University (NMSU), and Rudolph “Rudy” Wynter, former CEO and President of National Grid’s New York business. Their exceptional leadership and extensive expertise in energy, infrastructure and community development will further strengthen EPE’s commitment to deliver reliable energy to its customers and to prepare the electric system for significant growth.

Dr. Sullivan brings a wealth of experience in higher education, economic development and sustainability initiatives. As Associate Dean at NMSU and Director for Workforce and Strategic Engagement, she has championed initiatives in energy efficiency, advanced energy integration, alternative water use and reuse, and STEM outreach and education. Her work has secured significant funding from the Environmental Protection Agency, United States Department of Agriculture and the Economic Development Administration, enabling innovative programs that benefit businesses and communities in New Mexico and West Texas. 

In addition to her academic leadership, Dr. Sullivan serves on the New Mexico Spaceport Authority, as well as the Western Interstate Commission on Higher Education, where she advances education access, workforce readiness and statewide economic growth. Her contributions have earned her numerous accolades, including the New Mexico Distinguished Public Service Award and Energy Executive of the Year by the New Mexico Chapter of the Association of Energy Engineers. 

Mr. Wynter, the former President and CEO of National Grid’s New York business, brings extensive expertise in utility operations, infrastructure development and clean energy initiatives. Under his leadership, National Grid managed one of the largest utility networks in New York, serving over 4.2 million customers. He oversaw a $21 billion, five-year capital investment plan, which modernized the grid to improve reliability and resilience while enabling renewable energy integration. 

Mr. Wynter also launched transformative community initiatives which supported local businesses, fostered community partnerships and expanded workforce development programs. His board experience with EnerSys and Balfour Beatty further underscores his commitment to innovation and excellence in energy and infrastructure.
