EL PASO, Texas -- About 2,900 El Paso Electric customers were without power Thursday afternoon and evening for hours due to an unexplained outage in 90-degree weather.

The electrical outage was first reported about 4:15 p.m. in far East El Paso and utility officials said at that time that crews were working quickly to restore service.

Around 9 p.m. the problem was finally reflected as having been resolved, according to El Paso Electric's outage map.

The utility tweeted early on that the cause of the outage was under investigation. But it did not post any updates in the hours that followed, leaving residents in the heat without air conditioning to wonder what happened.
