Ireland-based Eaton Corp. to open El Paso manufacturing plant, create 200 jobs
Ireland-based Eaton Corp., plans to open a design and manufacturing facility in West El Paso, and create 200 jobs over several years, city and county officials are to announce Wednesday.
The El Paso facility is to make switchboard and motor-control components and will complement Eaton's existing manufacturing plant across the border in Juarez, according to city documents.
City Council is scheduled to vote at a special meeting Wednesday to provide Eaton with $580,896 in property, sales, and fee rebates, and a job-training grant over seven years.
County Commissioners Court is scheduled to vote at a special meeting Wednesday to provide Eaton with $297,869 in property tax rebates over 10 years.
A press conference with officials from the city, county, and the Borderplex Alliance, a regional economic development organization based in El Paso, is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. Wednesday to make the announcement.
Eaton is required to invest $15.7 million in improvements, and equipment at a facility at 7800 Trade Center Ave., in the Northwest Corporate Center industrial park in West El Paso, according to the proposed city economic development agreement with Eaton.
Eaton also is required to create 200 full-time jobs, paying at least $13.50 per hour over the next seven years.
Eaton, whose U.S. headquarters is in Cleveland, has 327 manufacturing plants in 42 countries, according to its 2017 annual report.
The company makes electrical, hydraulic and automotive parts and systems. It had sales of $20.4 billion in 2017.
Its stock, which trades under the ETN symbol, closed Tuesday at $72.31 per share on the New York Stock Exchange.
