El Paso Electric warns customers of new text messaging scam
Both the frequency and evolution of scams are on the rise. This time around: a text messaging scam targeting EPE customers with the following message: “URGENT NOTICE: The El Paso Electric rates in your area are being approved for a 8.7% increase this 2020. Press 1 to receive information on how to lower and lock your current electric prices with budget saving programs”. EPE took to social media to inform customers of the scam, which garnered media coverage for additional advisory.
