Las Cruces Sun-News: Bobcat electrocuted on power lines in Las Cruces

LAS CRUCES - A bobcat came into contact with power lines on the East Mesa on Thursday, killing the cat and dimming the lights for one nearby resident.

El Paso Electric Spokesman George De La Torre said dim lights were reported on the 5700 block of Mesa Grande Drive about 8 a.m. He said EPE crews responded and found the electrocuted bobcat.

The large cat was removed from the top of the 34-foot utility pole and power was restored to the customer, he said. The bobcat's body was taken to the New Mexico Department of Game and Fish.

"Energized electrical lines can be extremely dangerous to both humans and animals," De La Torre added.

photo being shared around social media, purportedly taken Thursday in Las Cruces, showed a bobcat hanging lifeless from a utility pole.
