Utility Dive: Ex-Texas Regulator Launches Lobby and Regulatory Consulting Practice

AUSTIN, TX (April 25, 2018) — Brandy Marty Marquez today announced the formation of an independent government relations and regulatory consulting practice. She served for the last five years as a member of the Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUC), and as Chief of Staff for Governor Rick Perry in 2013.

Marquez gained a reputation as an authority on public policy as a top lieutenant to Perry. She is widely considered an industry expert on complex public utility and federal regulatory issues. The areas of focus for the practice include the state’s budget, education, energy, infrastructure, and utilities.

“I’m thrilled to bring my relationships and expertise to the private sector,” said Marquez. “I’ve spent the last two decades driving positive outcomes for the State of Texas on the most challenging public policy and regulatory issues. I will bring that same passion and relentless focus to meet client needs and to create smart policy for Texas and the nation.”

On the announcement of her departure from the PUC, Governor Greg Abbott said, “The State of Texas has benefited greatly from the more than 17 years of dedicated service from Brandy Marquez. Her commitment and passion for public service have been on full display throughout her impressive career.”

Marquez will provide client services in the following practice areas: 

Government relations

Federal and state regulatory consulting 

Policy analysis and development 

Procurement

Marquez is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin and St. Mary’s School of Law. She previously served on the Texas Reliability Entity and the Nuclear Waste Storage Coalition. She is a member of the Texas Bar.
