City Issues Notices to Properties Near Arena Site: Demolition to Follow, No Date Set
An official date for the demolition activity has not been set. The City has agreed not to demolish any of the city-owned properties prior to November 19, 2018.
The next step in the development of the MPC is the second phase of the archaeological study, which involves ground penetrating radar and mechanical (excavation).
Last week, the City began securing the site with durable fencing as a necessary step to preserve the health and safety of the community.
The Texas Historical Commission (THC) has already granted the City a permit to carry out the archeological and historical investigation and review.
A judgment issued in August 2017 by an Austin trial court allowed the City to build the MPC at its proposed downtown location.
Most recently, the Austin 3rd Court of Appeals, issued a judgment allowing the City to host and accommodate sports and sporting events at the MPC; and the use outside funding sources for its construction.
The MPC is the largest of the three signature bond projects overwhelmingly approved by voters in 2012. A total of 102,358 people voted in favor of the MPC, representing 71.67 percent of the votes cast in the election.
The ordinance calling for the election stated the MPC would be located in downtown.
